We have an exciting opportunity due to growth for a permanent part-time or full-time Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner to join our Capacity Building Program. This unique opportunity is located at either East Victoria Park and/or Inglewood; balanced with the flexibility for you to work partly from home.

As a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner (PBSP) with Brightwater’s Capacity Building Program, you will be joining a skilled and supportive multidisciplinary therapy team alongside PBS practitioners, working in the community. You will also be mentored by our Specialised PBS Practitioner who is committed to developing you through the competency framework from Core to Proficient and Advanced levels. We see the benefits of collaboration, especially working with a client group with complex presentations including Younger Onset Dementia, Huntington’s disease, Acquired Brain Injury, Neurodiverse and mental health diagnoses. 

The role of the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Practitioner is to work closely with clients and their support system to collaboratively develop strategies that can improve their quality of life, understand their needs and reduce behaviours of concern. The Behaviour Support Practitioner develops and implements individualised Behaviour Support Plans to achieve optimal outcomes for clients, with the assistance of clinical and allied health teams as required.

 Your duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Manage a caseload of Behaviour Support/discipline specific referred clients
  • Work closely with the PBS and Allied Health teams
  • Undertake comprehensive functional behaviour assessments and develop person-centred behaviour support plans in accordance with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (Quality Indicators) Guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with the client, family and relevant service providers to ensure understanding of client behaviours to evidence client needs
  • Plan, coordinate and manage community based meetings/visits with clients, services and multidisciplinary teams
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of work activities in accordance with legislative and Brightwater requirements, including billing, information security and privacy
  • Provide leadership in relation to identifying areas for improvement and use a continuous improvement approach to problem solving
  • Participate in ongoing professional development as required of a Behaviour Support Practitioner under the National Disability Insurance Scheme Commission’s Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework

 The be successful in this role, you will possess the following attributes:

  • It is desirable but not essential that you are registered as an Allied Health professional with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or membership with relevant professional body (where AHPRA registration not applicable) and/or significant relevant behaviour support training and experience.
  • It is desirable but not essential that you have met the requirements for registration as a Core Behaviour Support Practitioner under the National Disability Insurance Scheme Commission’s Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework
  • Sound understanding of policy, Practice Standards and legislation relating to NDIS Behaviour Support and Restrictive Practices; this includes functional behaviour assessments and development and implementation of positive behaviour support plans
  • Experience providing training, education and coaching to staff and clients’ support system
  • Proficiency working in Microsoft Office suite and client management systems (Carelink+ desirable)
  • Working knowledge of Safety and Health legislation; NDIS Act 2013 and Disability Act 2006; and, where relevant, the Aged Care Act (1997), Aged Care Quality Standards and the Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI)
  • Current WA ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence and reliable, licensed transport with comprehensive insurance
  • Satisfactory National Police Certificate obtained within the last 12 months.
